Those who love seafood can’t say no to Salmon as it is one of the most delicious fish. Salmon is born in fresh waters, gets migrated to the ocean, and again returns back to the fresh waters to reproduce.
That may sound a bit weird, but that’s what Salmon is doing since the beginning. Salmon is a fish that is found in the Norway, Greenland, Eastern Canada, the Pacific Northwest and the Alaska.
Salmon, as we all know, is rich in many nutrients like Omega 3, 6 and 9. The fat content in Salmon is literally zero, so it is good for human beings. Well, what about cats?

Can Cats Eat Raw Salmon?
The simple answer to this question would be ‘No’. It is not safe to feed raw Salmon to cats. Despite the fact that cooking takes away taurine content from fish, it is not recommended to feed raw Salmon to cats. While many would agree upon the fact that raw Salmon is good because it contains taurine content, but that isn’t the case exactly. There are various reasons that confirm not to eat raw fish.
- Raw Salmon can contain bacteria and thus, it can cause food poisoning in your cat. Cooking kills most of the bacteria, and whatever left on the food is not harmful. But, raw Salmon is calling for a lot of troubles.
- Eating a raw Salmon is going to create Vitamin B1 deficiency in your cat. The reason being, raw Salmon contains an enzyme called thiaminase. This enzyme vanquishes thiamine, thus causing Vitamin B1 deficiency in cats.
These two reasons alone are good enough for you to not to serve raw Salmon to your cat. Thiamine deficiency can cause serious issues in cats. It can result in vascular injury and nerve damage. Though these two problems occur in rare cases, but these can’t be ignored because cats have succumbed to these medical issues.
It will be better if you don’t feed raw fish to your cat.
There is no issue in feeding your cat salmon, but the only thing that you need to keep in your mind is that it shouldn’t be raw. If you can feed cooked salmon to your cat, then that’s great. It is going to provide your cat with a number of health benefits.
While feeding a cooked Salmon, just make sure that there isn’t too much of salt in the dish because cats are not as much tolerant to salt as we are.
TIPS!!! Don’t even feed smoked Salmon to your cat as that is also not safe. Smoked Salmon is going to contain an excessive amount of sodium, which is not good for cats.
You have to regulate the number of times the Salmon dishes are being served to the cat along with the quantity because you can’t feed Salmon on a daily basis.
It should be given once or twice a week. Just scour the internet and find some good dishes that you can make out of Salmon.
