Can a cat eat Tuna? Well, if you’d consider the traits of cats, then Tuna fits well within the food items that can be served to cats. However, you have to be as careful as you are when feeding your cat the food that you are eating.

Cats can eat Tuna, but there must be certain restrictions that you have to put because if your cat keeps eating Tuna, then that will impact its health in a negative way.

What precautions do you need to take when serving Tuna to your cat?

You must be wondering as to why you should give Tuna to your cat in a limited amount. Well, if you start giving Tuna in large quantities, then your cat could miss out on some of the most vital vitamins such as Vitamin E.

The deficiency of Vitamin E can result in malnutrition in cats. There is a condition by the name of steatitis that can arise. Steatitis is known as Yellow Fat Disease, which results in inflammation of the fatty tissues of your cat and can be extremely painful.

If you are looking to have your cat eat canned Tuna, then think again because canned Tuna contains high mercury content. Tuna contains a lot of mercury, which it gets after consuming other fish. So, that mercury gets transferred to your cat when it consumed that Tuna.

Apart from Mercury, Tuna also contains a high level of magnesium and fatty acids. These two are good for humans, but for cats, these doesn’t seem to have that great nutritional benefits. Omega-3 is also present in Tuna, but that is only good for humans.

Tuna is good for cats, but too much Tuna can result in health problems. You have to limit the quantity of Tuna in order to have the cat enjoy the health benefits of this amazing food as well.

Precautions to take while feeding canned tuna fish to cats

We have already mentioned the issues that can arise in cats when it eats canned Tuna, yet you can give canned Tuna but only after paying attention to the following things:

  1. Check the quality of canned Tuna, as the quality varies with the brand to brand.
  2. There are added flavors and preservatives that are added in canned Tuna, which may have bad effects on your cat.

Canned Tuna is good if given occasionally because there are certain elements added into the products that are bad for cat’s health. So, if you let your cat eat canned Tuna on a daily basis, then you are pushing your cat towards all sorts of medical issues.

It is better to feed fresh Tuna because it is healthier and tastier than the canned counterpart. Raw Tuna should also be prevented because it contains all sorts of bacteria. Just add some variety into your cat’s food just like how you add in yours.

TIPS!!! Don’t just stick to one or two food items, as that will make things boring for the cat, and it will be deprived of a few nutrients as well.
